It wasn't just any morning...it was Champions Mud Bash morning! And it was AWESOME!

Before the race started Mike and Ashley got the celebrity treatment. Interviews, photo shoots. Who knew a 6'5" guy in a Robin costume would be so interesting?

The first mile (I think) of the race was tough. We started tightly- bunched in the woods and then ran through fields. Silently. Just loud breathing and wondering how far we had run.
Our first obstacle was a hay climb. Hello quads.
The second one instantly muddied my feet. Through the tube my friends. (I "stole" some of these pics from another blogger- Meals and Miles - sorry! I wanted ya'll to see what we were up against)
The race continued and it started to get REAL HOT just before my favorite obstacle!

After the race both Kyle and I said the we should've done the slide multiple times but we're too darn competitive for frivolity on the course.
After that we climbed more hay, crawled through even tinier mud tubes, through tires, through the woods (again), and over more hay before finally seeing the welcome SMOKE of the finish line!
Yes...SMOKE! Just a simple fire jump and mud crawl and we were done!
We were aiming to be under 30 minutes since we didn't know what to expect in terms of terrain and obstacles and I'm happy to report that we were. We "officially" clocked in at 30:04, however we were in the back of the starting pack and since there was no timing mat at the start (grrrrrr right) there was at least a 45 second lag before we took off.
The race was hot. It needed more water stops, some recovery drink, and mile markers, but overall it was far better organized that I expected and it was seriously very fun. Even those among us who had never run that far before (Ashley) did amazing and had fun. She even said she would do it again!

And we want to do it again! As soon as possible!
There are several "mud races" out there right now (Muddy Buddy, Warrior Dash (psst- Warrior Dash 2012 is in Lake Wales, Sat and Sunday Jan 22 & 23. Who wants to race Saturday?), Iron Mudder) and we are looking for another one to do here in Orlando. That way more of our clients and friends can join in! And yes, you will join in! Any advice?
Overall it was an amazing morning spent with great people. What else could you ask for?
Love and mud,
Carissa & Kyle

i've heard of these events..sounds fun and fierce. im so excited to meet you and your hubby. hubby is a personal trainer and i so want to work along side him, im just trying slowly to get there..definitely coming back to your blog to inspire me:-)
ReplyDeleteWait a second. I don't think I knew you were from the Orlando area. Fun! :-) I love blogs from my side of town.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do Mud Bash because it's just too hot for me this time of year, but I did do Warrior Dash in January and LOVED it. My hubs and I are going to do it next year. We're already trying to come up with costumes. :-)
We'd do Tough Mudder too if I didn't have the Las Vegas Rock n Roll half marathon on the same day.
Do you meet up with other bloggers? There's a Orlando lady blogger meet up next month if you're interested. Or maybe you're on the list and I don't know it?
Hey Paula! Yes we are in Orlando! I've only been blogging for about 3 months, and I love to meet up next month. Let me know the details!
ReplyDeleteHi, this is Jonny, the race director of The Highlander. I volunteered for the Mudbash and also supplied many volunteers as well. It was truly hot that day! We will have lots of cool water, a Monster Water Slide that is 150' long and has a 75' drop, climbing, ropes, large boulders, uphills, downhills, obstacles IN a clear cool lake (that's right I said IN)..... and so much more! All of this can be viewed high atop the ridge in the shade! Ale House with food (including Zingers) and ice cold beer, Harley Davidson bringing bikes and demos, the Monster Slide will be open AFTER the races are completed and will be open to anyone that has the guts to go down it..;-).
