Holiday Weekend Recap

How about a massive Marvelous in My Monday weekend recap?  We hope you had a happy and safe 4th of July weekend.  We were blessed with a wonderful, relaxing beach trip with perfect weather!
Since the 4th of July fell on a Friday and this is my first year with a "real job" I decided to take advantage of the official day off and plan a beach trip.  I was able to book a hotel on the beach in Clearwater for the weekend.  We made the drive down early Friday morning, arrived around noon, and were happily surprised to be allowed to check in early.  Thanks Hilton!
We spent the next 4 hours on the CRAZY busy beach! I mean the beach was packed with people all enjoying the sun and fun.  Luckily we snagged a cabana by the hotel, so our little beach world was perfectly serene.  We traded off between relaxing, walking, and floating in the water.
Around 4pm we headed up to the room to watch the World Cup and get ready for dinner.  We opted to stay close for dinner and went to Bob Hilldenbrand's Beachcomber right near Clearwater Beach.  It was an old-fashioned, classic seafood and steak restaurant...except for one thing....this relish tray?
A say what? A relish tray?  This was a new one for us and we were not fans.  For dinner I had the Chilean Sea Bass, which was delicious.  It's always a favorite fish of mine.
Fireworks on the 4th of July are a must and we had a superb seat to watch the action from our balcony.  Mother nature went first with a lightening display over the water.
Then we got to see fireworks that were put on at Downtown Clearwater across the bay and from the beach.  Amazing view made better with red wine and Luke Bryan on my Pandora.
Best 4th of July fireworks ever! Probably my favorite 4th of July since I was little and went to my Mom's friend JoAnn's house and she made that 4th of july cake with fresh berries and  I tried to play croquet.  I love cake. :)

The next day was Beach Day Take 2.  We grabbed a quick breakfast from Dunkin' Donuts (coffee please!) then completed a quick HIIT workout at the hotel gym.  Workout will be up on the blog later this week.
Kyle's college friend Greg met us at the beach and we enjoyed the sun and some volleyball. For lunch we took a walk to Frenchy's Rockaway Grill at Greg's suggestion and all enjoyed the grouper.
After lunch it was back to the beach for more late afternoon volleyball and swimming.  We didn't make it up to the room before 730pm, so we had a quick shower and walked to have dinner at the Clear Sky Cafe also on Clearwater Beach.  The menu was massive, but I decided to indulge a craving I'd had for a while and I choose shrimp and grits.  They were a little salty, but I loved the spinach and tomato relish with the creamy grits.  Can you spot our attempt at vegetables on the side?  Steamed asparagus for the win.
Sunday we had an uneventful ride home and due to very rainy weather ended up hanging at the house all day watching TV.  We were planning on renting the new 300, so we watched the old 300 in the afternoon, cooked dinner, and then watched the new one.  Color me fired up for my workouts this week. This is SPARTA!

I'm so grateful to have experienced a great weekend with Kyle!  I am super busy the rest of this month, so alone time is precious.

How did you spend your 4th of July?
When's the last time you went to the beach?

Love and sparklers,
Carissa & Kyle
