Good Monday morning from the Orlando International Airport. I'm heading out on a short post - Princess Half Marathon weekend trip to visit Mom.
Thinking about the travel and the colder weather I'm headed into got me thinking about immunity <insert man next to me sneezing!>. We all know the typical ways to stay healthy: wash your hands, don't touch your face, sleep, water, Vitamin C. However I wanted to share some "not so common" ways to boost your immunity.
Believe it or not current research has shown some simple and surprisingly easy ways to boost your immunity.
o Scientists says singing boosts immunity specifically immunoglobin-A proteins and hydrocortisone and anti-stress hormone. Singing on or off key was not a factor in the research.
o Several studies have shown the healing power of laughter to activate protective T-cells and increase antibody production.
o Listen to a funny podcast on the way to work, tune into your favorite sitcom while you cook, or call a funny friend.
o Did you know that a majority of your immune system lives in your gut? Probiotics are good bacteria that can give your immune system a boost. Buy a probiotic pill or increase your intake of yogurt or Kefir with live, active cultures.
o How many times have you heard that meditation is good for you and you promise to do it and then you don’t?
o Mindfulness meditation can positively influence the immune system.
o Start small and aim for 3-minutes of meditation right when you wake up.
· Moderate Exercise
o Moderate exercise isn’t only good for your waistline, but for your immunity too. Exercise can help your body fight infection and decrease your risk for other diseases like osteoporosis and cancer.
o Note – Don’t exercise if you’re already sick. It will slow your recovery time.
