Does the New Year signal a fresh start for you?
My diet is still waiting for the full "clean up", but I spent a few hours this New Year cleaning out my closet and cabinets. I was reading in "Real Simple" magazine how visual clutter can confuse your brain and cause anxiety. No thanks. I did a big cleaning of our closet and kitchen cabinets.
But now what do I do with the clothes we don't use?
I've always taken clothes to Plato's closet. They buy gently used, name brand clothes. I always, however hate going there. I always feel so un-cool when they tell me my clothes are "not a current style". But for some reason I keep trying. It's like coupons, I have to use them if I think I can. I took two huge bags to Plato's in hopes of a big return....
...final tally....$17. Welp.
I also tried an online resale site called "Like Twice". I first read about the site on Julie's blog. You tell them what brands you're sending (they currently only accept women's clothes) and they give you a pre-paid mailing label. Once they receive your order they make you an offer. Any clothes they don't want they will donate to Goodwill or mail back to you for $5.
Super easy and I made $35. I'm a fan.
However now I have a ton of clothes left that need a home. I guess I have a drive to Goodwill in my future.
Today at Evolution Fitness is our New Year's kickoff event.
I have been doing body fat analysis and answering some nutritional questions all morning. I thought I'd be sitting alone, however a lot of people came by. Kyle is also doing a boot camp and we have a 3 mile group run too.
We treated our clients to Panera, coffee, and fruit. The bagel was a very enjoyable indulgence.
The group run starts in 10 minutes so I'm off to get ready.
What do you do with your old clothes?
Love and kicking off,
Carissa & Kyle

I always end up with the same feeling when I go to Plato's closet and they reject most of my not in style clothes! thanks for the reminder to try Like Twice instead :)
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with Plato's Closet too. I've just given up and have started just donating everything without trying to find something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Like Twice! Plato's is sometimes 'off' in my opinion in what they will & won't take--and they never take work out clothes! Does Like Twice? But tanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLike Twice sounds awesome! I'm definitely going to check it out, because I have a huge pile of clothes I need to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteI probably shouldn't tell you this, but I finance my RunDisney habit by operating a children's consignment sale, not by using my RD. Putting twins in daycare took my entire paycheck when I was an RD, so I gave it up. I started Kentucky Kids Consignment Sales and absolutely LOVE running the event every spring & fall. It's a one-week pop-up consignment store for everything that babies/kids/teens/expecting mommas need. Our larger event has over 75,000 items and our smaller one has 30,000 items every season. My point is, in some cities, there are similar events for adult clothing & home items too. Check around to see if there is something near you!
