New Balance RunDisney 860 and Expo

How do you create excitement at a race expo?
Release a very limited edition shoe and sell said shoe out in record time.  Have you met the New Balance RunDisney 860v3?

According to the rumors going around the expo, New Balance made 1,008 pairs of these shoes. Around 600 of them were at the expo on Thursday and they sold out in 6 HOURS! That's a record sell out.  Allegedly around 200 more shoes were brought to the expo and those sold out just as quick on Friday am.  Also allegedly (there's lots of speculating here) there will be a very limited number of said shoes at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon expo starting on Friday.
I was at the expo on Thursday and had no intention of buying the shoes.  Then I saw them and I wanted them.  I mean my cat's name is Minnie!  The New Balance 860 are a stability shoe, so they're comfortable and cute as all get out.  What do you think?
The runners who snagged the shoes were giddy about it.  This is my new friend Ray.  We bonded over shoe excitement.  Hi Ray!
After my shoe splurge was over I resumed my usual expo duties that included sponsor announcements and general "blurbs" about the vendors at the expo.

If you're a race expo fan, the Disney Marathon is a big one!  There were two major running stores with all their gear, running headbands and skirts galore, and the best running slogan shirts.  I'm a big fan of Raw Threads shirts.  They made a special 39.3 shirt for those crazy enough for the Goofy Challenge.
I also caught up with Kelly from According to Kelly at the #TeamSparkle booth.  Kelly has the BEST running costumes!  And she's too sweet and cute for words! I also got a gun metal silver sparkle skirt that I'm looking for a 5k to sport it at.
I also picked up a SweatyBands headband and Running skirt to compliment my new shoes on marathon morning.  Total Minnie mode.
Each day I split my time between the expo and kids races.
This was the first time we had 3 days of kids races and that equaled 4,500 kids!
Gangam style with the kids.
I said "go" a lot but I loved every minute.  Besides the inevitable 3-4 lost "parents" per day, I love watching the excitement of the kids and parents.  The kids really love how they're doing a "big" race just like Mom and Dad.  It makes me happy for the one day when Kyle and I will have a little one to cheer on.
Tomorrow I'll continue on with my recaps of the VIP reception and races.
Would you have bought the RunDisney New Balance? What do you think of them?

Love and polka dot soles,
Carissa & Kyle

  1. I didn't get a chance to come say hi at the kids races but you guys did a fabulous job! My little guy did the diaper dash on Saturday, though my only complaint is no one told us they wouldn't go until almost 12 it was really hot out there for the babies. Obviously not your fault just a suggestion to pass along! I wish I could link a picture here, he was so darn excited to see his buddy Mickey!

  2. I absolutely love my NB Minnie shoes! I picked mine up from the Expo on Thursday around noon, and was honestly shocked that they still had them in stock. I can't wear my Mickey medal every day, but I can rock the Minnie sneaks whenever I want to! :) I can't wait to see the future editions of the NB runDisney shoes.
