In 2011 we visited Emeril's, Ocean Prime, Morton's, and Capital Grille. We began the 2012 culinary tour with Fleming's. Kyle is a steak lover, so we try to pick one, new-to-us, steakhouse each year. Fleming's was this year's choice and it didn't disappoint.
Fleming's has two Orlando locations and we went to the one on "Restaurant Row". Parking was a mess, so we opted for the complimentary valet.
Here's a hint - if you go to a Magical dining dinner you will have to ask for the Magical Dining menu. They will not automatically bring it out. Don't feel bad. Every table around us was there for magical dining month.

The appetizer selection was pretty boring and basic: a Caesar salad or a wedge salad. Kyle and I seriously had this conversation:
Carissa - Wow, these salads have no nutritional value.
Kyle - True. Which one is better?
Carissa - The wedge has tomatoes. Vitamin C?
Kyle - Good call. Weak salads.
The salad was fine. I'm never one to be angry at blue cheese.
There were three entree choices; filet mignon, glazed chicken, or BBQ salmon. Kyle chose the steak and I wrestled between the other two. I ended up choosing the chicken, because I had salmon 3 times last week.
The chicken wasn't anything to write home blog about. I really dislike skin on my chicken, but the meat was moist.
Kyle, on the other hand, was very pleased with his filet. It was cooked perfect and had a really nice flavor (I was allowed to steal 1 bite). He rated this steak higher than Morton's last year.
Now here's where I get excited (and scared) all at once. DESSERT! Excited, because I now realize I have a massive sweet tooth and scared because...well...dessert calories don't play around. The two choices were vanilla creme brulee and chocolate walnut turtle pie. We both chose the turtle pie and it was heaven.

The chocolate flavor was strong, but not overpowering and the caramel and crunchy walnuts completed the package. I even texted my Mom and I told her that I want to make turtle pie for Christmas dinner.
Overall, Fleming's was a great meal and wonderful date night. Would we return at full price? Probably not when there are other choices both enjoy more.
We have another "magical" date on Thursday at a place we've been 3 years running for dining month - The Capital Grille.
In other non "gee how do you eat that much" news, I tackled a 4.5 slow run Monday. I was slated for 7, however my ankle is still swollen and my knee pain is creeping back in. I'm torn between finding a doctor, resting, or just stretching more. I think my ankle is really weak and I'm running on the outside of my foot, which upsets my knee. Any PT's out there who want to offer free advice? I know I need to doctor's visit, but I'm hesitant because those medical bills add up.
I also engaged in some fall inspired baking. Any guesses?
Monday goal follow-up - In Monday's post I made a weekly goal to track my calorie intake. I'm using the SparkPeople app and website. Did you know you can actually take a pic of a food barcode and it will input that food? How cool!
The tracking helped me avoid some mindless munching so I'm off to a good tracking start, but very low calorie day.
Does your town have a reduced-cost dining month? Would you pay $30 for a good meal?
