I have this theory about a "healthy turning point". Once you make the turn you're either on the healthy path or you're not. Staying on the healthy path requires repeated, conscious healthy choices. A commitment. You're allowed some detours, however if you stray too far off the path of "good health" you may find yourself on a totally different path with no idea how you got there.
Do you follow me?
The past week for me has been busy. That's an understatement. I'm not complaining, however my load is just a little heavier right now. (15 page case study...I'm looking at you!) I've often been faced with a choice between the healthy alternative and the not-so-healthy, but more convenient choice.
- Should I workout or skip my workout and finish school work, clean the house, sleep 45 more minutes, ect...
- Should I wake up 20 minutes early to put a healthy dinner in the crock pot or just use something frozen later?
- Should I take 30 minutes before work and make a salad to take to work or buy something there?
Do you have heathy debates like that with yourself?
Every time I want to take the easy, more convenient, less healthy choice I remind myself, "I love my body. I want to treat it right."
Especially in times of stress your body needs high quality nutrients to keep working properly. You need the energy from a good workout and for me personally I need 6-8 hours of sleep.
I'm proud of myself for making the right choices this week to stay on the healthy path. I've had to sacrifice things - blogging, coupon clipping, TV watching - but I know my body thanks me.
I feel that I've been at a "healthy turning point". If I would have made different choices for example taken time off from the gym, bought my dinner at work, relied on soda to keep me awake, then in time those "choices" would become the norm. I'd slowly work my way off the healthy path and it would all be blamed on the fact that "I'm busy".
That's the healthy turning point. When the decisions to take the "un-healthy" choice outweigh the times you pick "healthy". It's so easy for that shift to happen. Life is busy for everyone.
Committing to a healthy lifestyle takes work. For me that work is worth it. I just need to remind myself of that sometimes.
If you find yourself struggling to fit healthy choices into your busy life or you find you've lost steam on your weight loss journey just remember to love you body. You deserve to be healthy.
Take the healthy path and come find me there. We can hang out! :)
Love and keeping focused,
Carissa & Kyle
