Today's plans include a rotation of family workouts in the jungle aka our 100+ degree garage. I'm up first, then Kyle's sister, then Kyle. After we're good and exhausted we are heading out to lunch with Kyle's Dad for Father's Day.

I love being on the trail when there are lots of other runners and bikers out. I like the distraction of seeing all the other people, but I like the feeling of community you get. People out there sweating, moving, loving being active. On my long runs I play a game where every time I see a person, I try to think of the first person they remind me of. I come up with some strange people. My middle school PE teacher, my friend's Grandma, people I work with. It's a pretty fun game to distract yourself running. Try it!
Yesterday I set out with a goal to run between 3-6 miles. I didn't want to push a body that wasn't ready, but I really wanted to get a long run in. This is my last Saturday run for a while, because of work and I wanted to take advantage of it.
My run was slightly delayed...
....but then I hit the streets.
I'm proud to say that I pulled out 6 slow, steady, sweaty miles. 6 miles. 58:30 - around 9:45 pace. <high fives self>
As you know I'm training for the Women's Half in November. I don't officially start my training program until around September, but I'm just trying to keep some mileage on my legs. I do have a time goal. A goal which requires me to run much faster then 9:45. Am I worried? No!
I have listened to the amazing Jeff Galloway talk many times at Disney races and he's always talking about how our bodies need us to slow down when it's hot. If it's over 65 then we need to slow our pace. It's hard mentally to run slow, when your end goal has you running fast...but if your body isn't treated right then you'll never get to that end goal.
After my run, I immediately drank some Nuun, water, ate a banana, and took an ice bath. It's not so terribly cold after running in the sun!
Later in the afternoon, we drove to Melbourne Beach to visit with our friends Jordin and Davis. The main celebration was for Davis's birthday, but Jordin & Davis just got engaged last weekend and we were thrilled to be there when Davis broke the news to his family. Congrats guys!
Davis was one of the "Best Men" in Kyle's wedding and Jordin actually caught my bouquet.

Then there was cake...ohhhhh this girl loves cake! Any other cake lovers out there? Even if I hadn't run 6 miles that day I still would have indulged in cake. You only live once friends. Eat the cake.
How do you adapt to running in summer heat?
Love and Betty Crocker,
Carissa & Kyle
