Theme Parties

For the first time in my blogging career I wrote an entire post....that magically got deleted overnight.  I'm shocked! Where'd it go???
Sadly, it didn't go anywhere I can find it......bummer.

Let's try this again.

Friday night Kyle and I got dressed up in some pretty interesting outfits and headed to his cousin's birthday party.  Kyle was dressed as a gorilla.

Let me explain....
Kyle's cousin, Maci, had an "Old Hollywood" themed birthday party.

I snagged a gorilla costume for Kyle after Halloween for 77 cents and someone suggested that Kyle and I go as King Kong and that lady he kidnaps.  I have never seen either version of King Kong so after a little google research we suited up.
How did we do?
Aunt Laura did a fabulous job of decorating her home for the party.  She even had a red carpet for the guests to strut down.
After a whirlwind of pictures, it was time for dinner.
Laura had a full buffet of food set up with Chinese food in honor of Graumman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.  She also made a special effort to add in some healthy dishes for the clean eaters in the group.
I filled my plate with grilled chicken and veggies which I topped with some mozzarella cheese.  I also had about a pint of strawberries. I just couldn't stop nibbling.
Then it was time for cake.  Maci's cake was adorable!
Now it has been documented that we are on a clean eating mission this week....therefore the cake was quite a dilemma.  Cake?  No cake?  Strong? Weak? Yummy? YES!

In the end, the yummy won out and I thoroughly enjoyed a piece of cake.

Here's why I came to the conclusion that cake was okay:
1. It was in fact the weekend and we had eaten "clean" all week.
2. I love cake.  I really do.
3. All things in moderation.
I don't ever feel like totally depriving myself. IMHO, when I 100% restrict myself from the things I love it's more likely to lead to overeating later.  That being said, if I was training for a fitness show or some other event I would've resisted the cake in favor of the bigger goal.  But I'm not...so I ate the cake...and I liked it! MMMMM!

Overall it was a very fun night with family. Especially enjoyable was Kyle hiding in the corner in his gorilla costume and scaring his cousins.  Classic.

Have you been to a theme party? What did you wear?

Love and film reels,
Carissa & Kyle
