Kyle and I had a fun double on Sunday with my friend and fellow blogger Alexis and her BF Brian.
We started at our favorite local "hole in the wall" restaurant Yellow Dog Eats. If you like BBQ, then I can assure you that this is the best BBQ out there. I'm a Southern girl, I know my BBQ, and Yellow Dog reigns supreme.
Every time we go I order the pulled pork BBQ salad. It has a generous helping of BBQ with some blue cheese, tomatoes, pickles, and fried onions. Not the world's healthiest salad, but it may be in the top 10 yummiest!
Kyle got his traditional Elvis sandwich. Basically it's pork on pork....BBQ + bacon. As a nutritional student there are healthier things on the planet, but it's a rare treat.
Alexis got a salmon wrap which looked great. I've never tried anything but the salad there. Maybe one day I'll have the courage to branch out and try another Yellow Dog delight.
After dinner it was finally time for...THE HUNGER GAMES! I was so excited. Alexis and I had read the book, but the boys hadn't.
Even though we had just had dinner I brought a few movie snacks. It is a 2 1/2 hour movie after all. I only ended up eating the carrots and Kyle had the protein bar.
In the end we all really enjoyed the movie! Kyle said it was "super intense", but he enjoyed it.
In regards to the book vs movie debate I think it did a pretty good job. I like visually seeing what the Seam and the arena looked like. I also like seeing how the Gamesmakers manipulated the action in the arena from that "mission control" type place.
The main thing I didn't like was that I felt the movie didn't do a good enough job of building up the character of Peeta. His selflessness and commitment to Katniss was so strong in the book. I don't know if a movie-goer who hadn't read the book would get that. What do you think?
Kyle also thought that his "tree camouflage" makeup was pretty ridiculous. He laughed out loud. And his last comment after the movie was, "That guy [President Snow] is mad." Yes Kyle, Snow is mad....very mad.
I had been so looking forward to seeing the movie that it was a little bittersweet now that it's over. Books read. Movie seen. Now we just wait until November 2013 for "Catching Fire".
I would like to thank all my blogger friends (Michelle & Madeline) who forced me to start reading these books! Good call!
Did you read/watch The Hunger Games? What did you think?
Love and nightlock,
Carissa & Kyle
