Popcorn Problems

Only 8 hours of work between me and the "finish line". Woot woo! I've really missed my husband and my fully stocked produce drawer.

Before work yesterday I met up with my friend Angela for lunch.  Ang was the MOH in my wedding, but she moved away! :( It had been ages since I'd seen her.
We ate at a Mediterranean joint called "Taza". According to UrbanSpoon, 86% of people like it. That's good odds, right?
I'm always in the mood for Mediterranean flavors.  I love tomatoes and the clean flavors.  We laughed as they had 4 different description of tomatoes on the menu.  There were apparently Roma tomatoes, fresh cut tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and then just plain tomato.
We started with the sampler appetizer platter.  I always get these, because I want it all! It had hummus, falafel, grape leaves, and Fatoosh salad. The Fatoosh salad was a star! It had chunky "fresh cut tomatoes", cucumbers, red onion, and crunchy pita chips in the mix.  I strangely like salad that doesn't have lettuce.  Is that weird?
For my meal I had a salad with grilled chicken.  The dressing was simply EVOO and lemon juice.  I was very full from the sampler, but enjoyed the clean tasting salad.

After lunch we treated ourselves to Starbucks.  I had a dirty soy iced chai tea latter & a cute little whoppie pie! My sweet tooth has been in full force lately!

Then it was off to work!  My dinner included an apple, tuna salad, and almond crackers.

For snack I had a bag of Orville Redenbacher's 94% Fat Free popcorn...yes....the whole bag.  That's embarrassing.
See here's the problem: I LOVE healthy popcorn.  Not movie theatre kind, but the healthier versions.  I have been digging the pop-up bowl. But it is hard to estimate servings of microwave popcorn. If you've ever tried to read the nutrition facts, then you know what I mean.  The serving sizes are so confusing!

And who cares about unpopped calories? Who eats unpopped popcorn?

After some research I learned that it's best to actually measure out your popcorn in 1 cup portions and then you'll know your actual calorie count.  I'm just going to call my "entire my gulp down" about 200 calories! At least it was full of whole grains and fiber!

  1. Don't feel bad...I ALWAYS eat an entire bag of popcorn!! It's my healthy indulgence! 200 cals for a whole bag is great!!! :) Better than eating poptarts, cookies, or whatever...there would be a LOT more cals for a MUCH smaller serving! Don't feel bad!

  2. I eat what ever popcorn there is, whether it's the third of a bag when sharing with my boys or a whole bag by myself LOL. I recently started popping plain popcorn in a brown paper bag. It works pretty well and has none of the extra ingredients that you find in the packaged stuff. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it salty though.
