Sprints, salad, and a magic mile

We have a Monday summer tradition.  If you've been reading for a while you know about it.  On Monday we run short sprints and eat a salad.
Workout twice in one day?  Okay!

It's part of our philosophy of "getting back on the healthy horse".  I think it's good to come back from the weekend and focus in on being healthy and fit.  It's all about moderation.  Enjoy the weekend, but remember your fitness goals on Monday.

I also like Monday's because we use rotisserie chicken from Publix for our salads..and that is easy for me.

We've also been on a big Greek salad kick so that's what we had this week too.  We like to call it Zeus's Greek Salad.

Rotisserie chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, feta, and black olives.  Sounds good to me!
Today's run was the "Magic Mile" predictor.  If you use the Galloway Run-Walk method like I do then you are familiar with it.  It is used as a predictor of your pacing for longer runs.  I encourage any beginner runners to try the Galloway method.  It got me through my first 26.2 injury free.  Read my How-to-Galloway blog here.

We finished our "Magic Mile" in 7:36.  Again, I'm no Speedy Gonzalez. BUT...BUT...that puts me at a 1:59 1/2 Marathon pace.  It has long been my secret dream to finish a half marathon under 2 hours.  Could I do it?  My PR is 2:06.  I'll write more about the Magic Mile this week.  I think it's a great strategy. But gosh 1:59...St Pete Women's Half anyone? That doesn't leave any room for error!

Why don't you give salad & sprints Monday a try?

It doesn't have to be exactly a salad and a run, but do 2 healthy things for yourself and your family every Monday.  Then tell us about it!

  1. If I (non-athlete to the core) can do a sub-2 -- you can do a sub-2!! It's so, so, so mental - you've definitely got the physical part down.

    Great job on your mile!

  2. Oh gosh- Michelle- I would love to go sub-2. I've just never been fast over distance. I'm a lifting kinda girl! :) I just have to find what race I can run....it work so much in the fall and winter on weekends. I hope I can find a race and do it under two! I think I can, I think I can!
